Rampant romania rules the roost

Romania is the most ‘attractive’ investment destination in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE)…

This is the finding of a new survey conducted by the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW). The survey revealed the following:

  • 37% of foreign investors polled considered Romania to be the most attractive investment destination
  • Romania came out ahead of Poland (34%), the Czech Republic (15%)  and Hungary (6 percent).
  • 61% of investors believed that Romania was the most active country in the region.
  • 4.5% percent polled considered Romania's current economic situation toe be ‘good’.
  • 68.2% considered it acceptable.
  • 27.3% deemed it to be negative.

Additionally, people from Germany and Austria are considered the most active investors in Central and Eastern Europe, with both states having major interests in Romania. Germany is Romania's main commercial partner and Austria is the biggest foreign investor in the country.

A spokesperson for ZEW commented: “The survey shows that investor opinion about Eastern and Central Europe has improved over the past months. At the beginning of the year investors were pessimistic and skeptical about Romania and other countries in the region, but that has all changed now”.
