Living near an airport is bad for health, says study
The noise of Planes flying overhead has always been a turn-off for those looking at houses near an airport, but now a study from Imperial College London and King’s College London has found that living near an airport may be bad for your health in other ways.
The research, published in the British Medical Journal, compared data from the Civil Aviation Authority on sound levels against hospital admissions and mortality rates for residents close to Heathrow Airport. It concluded that people living in areas with high noise pollution from aircraft faced a bigger risk of heart disease or stroke.
72,000 people living in the noisiest neighbourhoods had a 10 to 20 per cent greater risk than those in the quietest areas.
Another study in the US analysed 6 million people living near 89 different airports and found that aircraft noise accounted for more than 2 per cent of hospital admissions for cardiovascular diseases, reports The Independent.
