George Clooney tied the knot this weekend at the Aman Canal Grande Venice hotel. Celebrities from around the world descended upon the luxurious building, arriving at the waterfront entrance in star-studded flotillas. Indeed, the palazzo is only accessible from the Grand Canal, which gives this hotel the kind of privacy a glamorous wedding needs.

The Aman Canal Grande Venice is housed in the Palazzo Papadopoli, which was built in 1550. It swapped hands across the following centuries, its varied wealthy owners boosting its impressive art collection, before being picked up in the 1800s by the Papadopoli family, who renovated the whole thing with the help of no less than Michaelangelo Guggenheim.

This is where the property became a Neo-Renaissance and Rococo icon, with the brothers even acquiring two neighbouring buildings and knocking them down to build private gardens. Owned today by the grandson of Count Giberto Arrivabene (who married Vera Papadopoli Alborandini), the hotel was opened in 2013 following a further restoration.

The first floor of the hotel was filled with candles and lanterns, with its five-storey living space extending all the up to a rooftop terrace with a view of the Venetian skyline.
