Ukraine now the riskiest country in europe
Ukraine is now the riskiest country in Europe, according to FM Global.
Uncertainty within the continent has been high in recent months, thanks to the possiblity of a Greek exit from the euro. Tensions between Ukraine and Russia, though, have been looming over the European economy for some time. As a result, the country plummeted in the firm's annual index of resilience. Ukrain fell from 76th place to 107th, more than any other country except for Kazakhstan.
"This is due directly to the ongoing crisis in the southern and eastern parts of the country," says the report. "The fall in Ukraine’s position in the index has been most marked with respect to an intensified political risk and deteriorating infrastructure: transport, telephony and energy. The available data underpinning the 2015 index were sourced before the most recent outbreak of fighting. Since then, Ukraine’s situation has continued to deteriorate."
The ongoing conflict has already seen Russian investment in property decline, thanks to the rouble's rapid depreciation.
